The rules were simple: Find something musically unique and never discount an idea before you see how it sounds. It started as a recording project, but close to two years on
the confidence among Ten Tiers group members Jonathan Tiersten, Stephan Hume, Scott Perrie, and Nick Ryan has grown, and with it so have their goals.
Head songwriter Jonathan Tiersten (lead vocals/acoustic guitars), grew up in New York City and initially took a stab at becoming an actor. Graduating from NYU with a degree in theatre, Tiersten has taken on leading roles in two independent films, as well as doing commercials and plays. Somewhere along the way Jonathan decided music was his true calling. A man with a distinct 70s songwriter/classic rock influence like that of Neil Young and David Bowie, Tiersten moved to Colorado, and after releasing a solo album, and fronting two local bands — Gafiltaphunk and Bambi's Apartment — he finds himself in the lead role in Ten Tiers.
The drummer and producer's main influences are 90s alternative and pop music that is popular but defies all definitions of pop like Alice in Chains and Massive Attack. Then there's the keyboardist slash saxophonist, where the folk pop of Barenaked Ladies and Counting Crows have influenced his musical style.
Ten Tiers has played venues in Denver, Boulder, Fort Collins and Summit County. Over the last year and a half, they have self-produced a six song demo CD, developed their own website and teamed up with Fury Artist Management. Currently the band is working on its first full length CD.
