Plastic Parachute
Prior to forming the indie-rock quartet Plastic Parachute, Deb Hooks (vocals), and Ricky Brewer (guitar), worked together as a duo, playing their unique brand of pop-oriented acoustic music to audiences everywhere, including a performance at the world famous Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, TN.
After settling in Colorado, the two earned local recognition by releasing the song “Pipe Dream” (co-written by Mark Austin King), for the soundtrack to the Warren Miller film, Fifty. Wanting to further develop their sound, Hooks and Brewer sought to assemble musicians that would push their forays deeper into alternative rock, and to that end brought bassist Shaun Nelson on board. With his ability to provide a truly powerful component to the group’s dynamic, Plastic Parachute was officially born.
Their first EP, Risk of Injury, was produced by famed drummer, Rodger Carter (Rick Springfield, Lita Ford, Meredith Brooks) and recorded & mixed by Grammy winner Matty Spindel (Santana's Supernatural & Motley Crue's Dr. Feelgood). In just one short year, Plastic Parachute had risen from the ranks of the unknown to opening for top National Acts such as Nelly Furtado & Rick Springfield at venues like Colorado’s internationally acclaimed Red Rocks Amphitheatre.
Plastic Parachute also gained the interest and expertise of sought-after Los Angeles producer, Ronan Chris Murphy, and by early September 2003, the recording of their self-titled album was completed at Veneto West of Los Angeles, CA. Released October 18, 2003 at TOWER RECORDS in Denver, it broke the store record for the most albums sold on release day by any Independent Artist.
A 2004 Westword magazine nominee for Denver's Top Pop Band, Plastic Parachute recently signed licensing deals with both MTV & CBS. Plastic Parachute songs will soon be heard on MTV’s PIMP MY RIDE, Trippin’ and The Newlyweds, as well as the hit CBS series Joan of Arcadia.
The band has recently announced the replacement of their original drummer, and is currently on tour in support of the Plastic Parachute album.
