D.O.R.K.
“I can’t go anywhere without hearing about you guys,” exclaimed one Colorado teen to Donovan Welsh, bassist in the Denver-based pop-punk band, D.O.R.K. That was 2002. It’s been full speed ahead ever since...
D.O.R.K. — formed by Welsh with guitarist Schuyler Ankele, Bryan Knoebel (guitar/vocals), Dylan Martinez (vocals), and Jimmy Blair (drums), quickly began etching the band’s memorable name in Colorado fans’ minds and further setting its sights on national recognition.
The starting point: the self-scheduled "Technical Difficulties" Tour.
With months spent on the road in their new tour van, and close to 100 shows spanning thirteen states, the band achieved much—new fans, the nuances of handling an extended touring schedule, the ability to overcome the countless and inevitable “technical difficulties” encountered on the road, and the admiration of professional tour organizers and promoters like Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman, who was quoted in The Denver Post (July 2004) as naming D.O.R.K., “The ultimate DIY kids.”
Taking three days out of their relentless tour schedule, the band also stopped in L.A. to record a few of their many songs with legendary multi-platinum producer Geza-x (Primus, Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, Face To Face, Sonic Youth).
In 2003, the band dazzled packed clubs at 2 showcases at the South By Southwest Music Conference in Austin, Texas and won Denver weekly Westword’s 2003 reader’s poll nod as “Best Denver Punk Band.” D.O.R.K. has held the opening slot for famed rockers Bad Religion, Social D, Pennywise, Unwritten Law, Bowling for Soup, and Goldfinger. The band played South by Southwest once again in 2004 and continues to tour throughout the West, highlighted by repeat performances at the world-famed Whisky a-Go-Go in West Hollywood.
D.O.R.K. latest full-length CD release is 2004’s Furious George. Look for the five-song EP/CD, D.O.R.K. Side of the Moon to be available soon.
