New Rubber Planet Songs mixed by Jeff Kahan!
Out of the great city of Denver comes the fresh and inventive high-energy rock of Rubber Planet, whose radio-friendly, ‘distorted pop’ is designed to catch the ear of every listener. As Westword’s local music press Grand Poobah Dave Herrera hears it: “There’s no doubt, these four guys have cracked the code when it comes to assembling accessible, hook-laden power pop.”
Formed in the summer of 1998, Rubber Planet features Silver (lead vocals/bass), Brice (guitars/vocals), Vitamin G (guitars/vocals), and Leo 7 (drums/vocals). The history of the band really began when Silver and Brice began to write and play open mic nights together. By summer 2000 the duo were joined by Silver's childhood friend and former high school bandmate, Vitamin G. Then, after playing with what seemed like more drummers than the mythical Spinal Tap, the band finally found one that lasted with Leo 7.
Rubber Planet’s first three full-length albums, Out There (2004) — produced by local legend Bill Thomas and mixed at Westlake Audio Studios in Los Angeles by Jeff Kanan (No Doubt, and Madonna) — Fun With Rubber (2002), and Just Visiting (2000), have recently been joined by the band’s new self-titled EP, which was produced by Peter DiStefano (Porno for Pyros, Peter Murphy) and co-produced by Jeff Kanan, also at Westlake. The result is an explosive collection of songs that show a band that has paid its dues and is ready for big things.
“They have a powerful sound with dynamics,” says DiStefano. “The songwriting is pristine and the vocal is soulful with tone. Great musicianship.”
Voted Denver's Hardest Working Band by Go Go Magazine in 2002, and nominated for ‘Best Pop Band’ at the 2004 Westword Music Awards in Denver, Rubber Planet have toured throughout the midwest and west coast, opened for such national acts as Lifehouse and Flickerstick, and earned a spot on the Vans Warped Tour show here in Denver in 2000, alongside acts Green Day, Long Beach Dub All Stars, Papa Roach, Mighty Bosstones, and Weezer. They also bear the distinction of having a Number One song on the now-defunct mp3.com, and scoring 6 songs in the top 40 of the online music source, with total downloads over the 60,000 mark. In addition, Rubber Planet have been played on many area radio stations including, KTCL, KBPI, 99.5 The Peak, KCSU, KPAW, and AM 1190, and appeared on The WB2 morning news show.
